Technical Advisory Services

Technical Advisory Services
We are often approached by energy regulators, energy savings programs, and building managers for technical advisory including but not limited to the development of energy guides, Energy Conservation Measures (ECMs) and their quantification, verification of ECMs actual energy savings, and the development of rate calculations.
Major Energy Retrofit Guides
We were awarded a commission to research and write technical guides for major energy retrofits for commercial offices, retail stores, hotels & motels, hospitals, and schools. The grocery store module included measures for the refrigeration systems and the ECMs available for food storage are the same for ice making; it’s all about modulating the operation of the compressors and pumps according to a variable demand. We completed the assignments in partnership with Posterity Group, in which we provided all the technical research and business case analysis for the ECMs. The significance of this project is that the work was vetted in detail by NRCan and the material was accepted for their upcoming publications.
Modelling Guidelines
We are currently working on a technical modelling guideline for the Savings by Design incentive program, with the intent of streamlining the energy modelling methodologies used by the modelling community in Ontario to claim credit for energy efficiency measures for their new construction projects.
Energy Conservation Measures
A key element of any worthwhile energy audit is identifying Energy Conservation Measures (ECMs) for the client to implement as part of a retrofit project. After the existing building systems have all been reviewed and described in the report, we will define a list of Energy Conservation Measures (ECM) with supporting energy savings calculation, methodology and assumptions.
At the client’s request, we can assist with the implementation of the project’s ECMs, and following the ECM installation, complete the necessary M&V procedure defined in the M&V plan to quantify the ECM’s actual energy savings.
