Ryan Evans has worked in the energy‐efficiency field for over 15 years, starting out as a home energy advisor for NRCan’s EcoEnergy Program during his University studies in 2005. Driven by his love for buildings and building systems, Ryan quickly became interested in energy efficiency for large commercial and industrial buildings and started looking for new opportunities to work in this sector.
In 2007 when Ryan started conducting commercial energy modelling to secure incentive funding for one of Canada’s largest supermarket chains. Ryan continued his energy-efficiency career growth by conducting over 3 million ft² of commercial energy audits between 2007 and 2010, identifying over $1 million in proposed energy cost savings.
Since 2007 Ryan has specialized as an energy modeller, and building code expert. Ryan has spent much of his time working as an Energy Model Reviewer for programs such as Ontario’s High Performance New Construction (HPNC), Enbridge’s Savings by Design (SBD), and the City of Toronto’s Toronto Green Standard (TGS), ensuring projects comply with the Ontario Building Code’s (OBC) energy performance requirements outlined in the SB-10 and SB-12 supplementary standards. Leveraging his experience from energy modelling reviews, Ryan also creates energy models for clients looking to design high performance buildings.
Ryan has become a strong believer and proponent for the Integrated Design Approach, through his collective experience working with the various architectural and engineering members of new construction design teams. It is through this approach—aligning of the entire project team (i.e. developers, architects, engineers, and contractors) to the same performance objectives, that Ryan believes we can design and construct/retrofit high performance buildings in order to achieve the aggressive carbon emissions targets by 2050.
Ryan holds a B.Eng. in Mechanical Engineering. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in Ontario, a Certified Measurement and Verification Professional (CMVP), and speaks English and French.
