Energy Modelling Review
We have operated as and energy modelling reviewer. Our role is to ensure models are compliant with related incentive-based programs. We have worked with utility companies and municipalities in this role to confirm software requirements, weather data, and conformity with relevant regulations, standards and/or protocols.
We have been an active energy modelling reviewer for the High-Performance New Construction (HPNC) incentive program since its inception in 2008. The HPNC program underwent many changes over its 11‐year existence before being canceled in April 2019. While working with the HPNC program, we were exposed to many members of the energy modeling community, and as of 2016 has become the Project Reviewer for Enbridge’s Savings by Design (SBD) program and the Toronto Green Standard (TGS).
We believe that it is the Project Reviewer’s role to communicate the verified saving results with the applicant/proponent and to ensure all parties agree with the results. In our experience, this approach avoids having to revisit projects after the fact (e.g. issuing pre‐ approval, following delivery of the incentive cheque, etc.) saving valuable administrative time.
